We Aim to leave this earth better than we found it

CO2 neutrality is cool, but we find it a bit boring. Our take on sustainability is to change the meaning of responsible production. We are cleaning up our atmosphere instead of simply minimizing emissions.

How?

We currently nurture and plant trees in a forest of aproximately 6,3 ha, which takes carbon dioxide out of the air, keeps the carbon and returns the oxygen back in to the atmosphere.

How much?

On average 1 cubic meter of growing tree binds 1000kg of CO2 and releases 727 kg of oxygen through photosynthesis according to this study. Mature trees absorb around 6300 kg of CO2 annually according to this study. We currently have 236 cubic meters of tree in our forest with a mix of both mature and growing trees. We also aim to keep increasing this number as we grow. Currently our trees clean up approximately 140 000Kg of CO2 through growth and photosynthesis. When our production and logistical emissions reach half of what our trees clean up, we will start planting trees in order to always keep cleaning at least double the amount we emit. Thus, the more of our delicious coffee you consume the less CO2 there will be.

How much does our production emit?

Our nearby surroundings enable us to have close to zero emissions in our roasting process. The biggest difference from other roasteries is our fully electrical roaster. This brings a controversial challenge and a LOT of extra practice but the result is overwhelmingly satisfying once we got it right. Our electricity is produced right next door by a hydroelectric power plant. We use CO2 neutrally produced and fully recyclable packaging. Growing, processing and shipping of coffee beans however produce 5.5 times their weight in CO2 emissions. Thus, one kilo of coffee beans emit roughly 5.5 kilograms of CO2. As we are the new kid on the block we do not know how much coffee we will produce on a yearly basis. If we reach half the amount in emissions than we clean up we will do more land acquisition for tree planting.

Disclaimer: The CO2 calculations on our Carbon sink and production emissions are estimates and based on outside research. The real values may vary.
